ACL
Guess what? I tore my ACL. In case you don't know what an ACL is ;
ACL stands for anterior cruciate ligament. It is one of the major ligament that holds your knee in place and it attaches from the lateral femoral condyle (thigh bone) to the medial tibial plateau (shin bone) and prevents the shin bone from moving too far forward, excessive inward rotation of the shin bone, and knee hyperextension. The ACL also helps protect the knee from bending sideways toward the body.
So how did I tear my ACL? One word - Jumpstreet. That's right. Jumpstreet is a place full of trampolines where you can have fun jumping around. Basically, I was jumping around , not even attempting any flips or anything dangerous, and on one of my landings I felt and heard a pop at my knee on my right leg. The instance I heard it , I thought " OKAY, that's not right". So I went to the side , ( don't ask me how I went to the side, it happened so fast I don't even remember :P) and tried to put some weight on my right leg to see if it was okay. When I shifted my weight to my right knee, my knee gave way and I could not support my weight. So I immediately went down to the ground.
I know, seems painful, but funnily I did not feel any pain at all. I SWEAR. It's the weirdest thing ever. All I felt was uncomfortable and a lot of pressure. After that, some of the jump referee's there took me to the medic where one of the jump referee told me that he suspected I have an ACL tear and I also got examined by a doctor. He found it strange that I didn't feel any pain at all and surprisingly there wasn't really any swelling. But just the fact that I couldn't stand on my right leg or walk was already an indication that something wasn't right. Reading all this, you probably would be thinking that throughout this whole time, I'd be freaking out, but honestly, I wasn't. I have to say I was pretty calm. Well, the jump referee who was with me did help calm me as he was telling me how he had torn his ACl before as well and that he went through surgery and now he's fine.
Got an MRI done and basically the report said "suspected ACL tear". So at the moment, we don't know the severity of the tear yet, but I'll be meeting up with surgeons soon to see how sever it is and whether or not I need surgery. I guess I am prepared to have to have surgery, simply because I am a very active person, and the chances of me recovering to my previous state would be much higher IF I do surgery. But I guess I'll find out soon.
