Monotone

I get asked this question many times, from many people and I think that it's about time I answered this question.

Jade, why do you like black and white photos so much?

One word : simplicity. Personally, black is one of my favourite colours and my mom can testify to that. My wardrobe is filled with black clothes it's ridiculous. Anyways, I think that photos that are monotone somehow speak the loudest to me. Of course not saying that I do not think coloured photos give the same impact, they do. But to me personally, black and white photos seem to say a lot.

I find the simplicity of monotone photos bring out the story behind the photos really well. It's amazing how a picture can have so little colour, but can say so much. That, to me, is truly magical. Here are some monotone photos which I took during my travels overseas.

This one is my personal favourite. This was taken in Siena, Italy. The light coming through the door seemed to give off almost complete rings that appeared in my camera lens. It felt great to have been able to capture this. I have not been able to capture light this way since I took this photo and am still trying to capture these beautiful rings of light once more.

This was taken in Rome in one of the churches we visited. I wanted to take a shot of the beautiful chandeliers but wanted to take it in a different perspective. As I stood underneath this chandelier I realized how interesting the details of the chandelier seemed from this perspective. I took this in monotone to enhance the details of this chandelier to really show off the shapes and intricacies.

This was taken during Chinese New Year earlier this year. This little kitten was lurking around in my grandparents place. Managed to get this shot of the kitten as it warily looked around.

Lo and behold The Grand Canal of Venice, Italy. There is not much I can say about this photo accept for the fact that this photo speaks for itself. Venice is a lovely place and I would definitely love to visit there again in the future.

A photo of the shoes I wore during most of my travel in Italy. Love the rugged look of the shoes.

This is another one of my personal favourites. Taken in South Africa in an ostrich farm. I really wanted to take a close up shot of an ostrich and am very glad that this turned up well. They are such beautiful animals. I personally love their eyes and how their eyelashes compliment those large eyes.

This was also taken in South Africa at the Lalibela Game Reserve. Introducing my little sister, Kate. I absolutely love taking candid shots of her and my other family members.

Say hello to this grumpy cat I met in South Africa. It kept following my siblings and I to the hotel room and didn't mind us getting really close to it. Hence, this close up shot of it's face. The focus of this picture is its' fur and patterns on its' face.

So there you have it. Reasons why I absolutely love black and white photos. I do have a page where I post most of my photography so do check it out :)
